Our SOH Bird

Many of you have been asking about the 8"x8" drawing of the bird that I finished during the WPTV segment. The actual piece was for a specific project. However some requested a giclee print version. So I agreed to make it available. Thank you all for your support during this chaotic time for our family.

SAVE OUR HOME

Well it has been a year since we have been having battles to keep our home.  & so far, no progress.  Now it is going to be full steam ahead.  We have found so many ways to help others meet their own personal & professional goals, while neglecting our own personal illnesses, financial & emotional struggles since 2011.  So we now are asking for help in return.

Like always we will pay it forward by a percentage going to breast cancer research. Even though we are going through our personal struggles we never forget that there are others going through worse situations than ourselves. Hence regardless of our personal struggles we will always find a way to pay it forward.

The main goal: TO SAVE OUR HOUSE. All money collected at this show through art sales (minus the percentage for charity) is going to pay the debt on the house.  We simply need your support. The fiscal goal is $25,000.

We thank you in advance for your help & support in the very difficult yet optimistic time.

They saved my life

Meet Eugenia MillenderMeet Anthony Burks
Eugenia Millender, Ph.D.(c), M.S., P.M.H.F.N.P, C.C.R.N.
Clinical Director

Eugenia Millender is a psychiatric and mental health family nurse practitioner whose prior experience includes more than 10 years as a critical care nurse and six years in the U.S. Army. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in nursing from FAU's College of Nursing where her research focus is on the impact of social determinants of health on the mental and physical well-being of minority populations.

Eugenia's passion to combat diabetes comes from an intimate fight with the disease. Her grandmother passed away from complications related to diabetes, and her mother is currently fighting the same disease. When Eugenia sees an individual like Antony Burks do all the right things to roll the clock back on diabetes, she becomes one of his/her biggest fans.

Eugenia Millender is a huge fan of artist Anthony Burks a patient who was diagnosed with diabetes several months ago. Anthony visits the Diabetes Center for help with monitoring his diabetes as well as educational support and medication management. He has learned how to handle living with diabetes and has complete control over the disease. Already, Anthony has has lost weight and begun sharing his newfound knowledge with his own family, teaching them about a healthy diet and adopting new ways to eat.
"The main reason that I was introduced to FAU's Diabetes Education and Research Center was because I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes," said Anthony. "The program gave me a whole lifestyle change. I have a family history of diabetes, and the knowledge that I gained from me has allowed me to educate myself and others on proper eating habits. Diabetes does not need to be a death sentence for me. It was brought to me as a curse and a blessing. Finding out that I actually had this disease saved my life. The signs were there, and I just did not recognize them at the time. There needs to be more groups of this nature, to educate the black community. Thank God for the FAU Diabetes Education and Research Center and their staff!"

About Anthony's Art

"All of the visual art that I do comes from my mind and my heart. It is a gift from God that I love and cherish immensely.

Change is a challenge for many artists; however, I have learned to embrace it. Incorporating bright colors into my images has always been an objective, but I have learned to also integrate abstract images into my concepts. This has allowed me to be more diverse and creative with my work. I want my audience to be as free in viewing my work as I am in creating it. I am willing to tackle the next stage of my artistic journey."
